Employee Relocation Management Policy

Notice: GSA published a proposed FTR bulletin on collection of relocation data, concurrent with a proposed rule. The proposed rule lays the foundation for collecting transaction-level relocation data from every Federal agency whose combined spending on travel and relocation is more than $5 million per year, as well as outlining the process for annual reporting of relocation data by those agencies. This proposed FTR bulletin provides a proposed data dictionary for both of these data collection processes. Please review the Proposed FTR bulletin – on relocation data collection and reporting.

GSA's relocation management policy seeks to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal government in providing or obtaining "best value" relocation services through the implementation of governmentwide policies and tools. The Relocation Management Policy's goal is to improve management of the federal government by effectively developing polices in the following areas:

These efforts involve:

  • Implementation of the Governmentwide Relocation Advisory Board's Findings and Recommendations;
  • Continuous evaluation of relocation programs and policies; and
  • Analyzing the impact of current and proposed regulations, laws executive orders.
