GSA announces new political appointees
WASHINGTON — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced two new political appointments that will serve as Regional Administrators, effective yesterday, June 6.
Francis “Fran” Thomas will serve as Regional Administrator for regions 1 and 2. Thomas comes to GSA with an extensive background in property management. Prior to joining GSA, he served as senior director at the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency where he oversaw the Performance Based Contract Administration Initiative consisting of over 300 contracts and over 40,000 units. He also previously held roles as the Chief of Property Disposition and the Assistant Director of Property Management. During his tenure, he received the Walter Kreher Distinguished Service Award and the National Affordable Housing Management Association Industry Partner Award, among others.
Denise Maes will serve as Regional Administrator for regions 5, 6, and 8. Maes brings over 20 years of legal experience. Prior to joining GSA, Denise served as the Public Policy Director at the ACLU of Colorado, where she was responsible for all legislative initiatives at the state and local levels. Maes also previously served as the Director of Administration, Office of the Vice President (OVP) for Vice President Joseph Biden and also served as General Counsel in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Maes is a Board Member of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Maes received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of New Mexico and a Juris Doctorate from the University of New Mexico School of Law.
