Federal Regulation Policy Overview
GSA is responsible for carrying out the policy and regulatory functions assigned to it by Congress, as one of the central management agencies of the federal government. GSA collaborates with customer agencies and stakeholders to develop policies for the implementation of federal laws, executive orders and other executive branch guidance.
Through the issuance of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), the Federal Management Regulation (FMR), the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR), and other guidelines for the management of property, technology and administrative services, GSA provides a governmentwide policy framework that affords agencies the flexibility to accomplish their missions in the most effective manner.
GSA also coordinates the production of the Unified Agenda of Federal Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions, a semiannual compilation of information about regulations under development by federal agencies published in the spring and fall.
