Wildland Fire Program
GSA to Transfer Fire Program to DLA
As part of a comprehensive Supply Transformation initiative, GSA is collaborating with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to transfer the Wildland Fire program to DLA. The Fire Program Update contains initial information on this transition. Additional information will be posted here as details of the transition are clarified.
GSA furnishes wildland fire protection equipment and supplies to federal agencies, as well as to U.S. Forest Service cooperating agencies, through formal agreements with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management.
Pricing Update: GSA has updated pricing on the items in its 2013 Wildland Fire Equipment Catalog. The Price Update - GSA Fire Catalog lists all relevant items identified both National Stock Numbers (NSN) and National Fire Equipment System (NFES) numbers.
Online Billing: January 2014 is the last month in which GSA Global Supply will mail paper copies of bills for customers. Note that this change does not impact customers using a government purchase card, but only those using an AAC/DoDAAC (or equivalent) to order supplies. To learn more about viewing online bills, see Paperless Billing from GSA.
Product Update: USDA's Forest Service has revised the specification for wildland firefighter Nomex pants. For details, see our What's New page.

Note on First Aid Kits
The manufacturer of 3 first aid kits (listed below) is revising a component label to clarify the description of its contents. Existing labels may suggest that the PVP iodine swab in each kit is sterile, when it is only the applicator that is sterile. The iodine solution, used as a disinfectant, was never intended to be a sterilized product. There is no safety issue for patients and no reason to return existing kits. However, labels on future products will be more specific.
The affected items are:
- NFES 0067, NSN 6545-00-656-1092 First Aid Kit, Type I
- NFES 1604, NSN 6545-00-656-1094 First Aid Kit, Type III
- NFES 1143, NSN 6545-01-010-7754 First Aid Kit, Type IV
