WASHINGTON - The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) is hosting a five-month, "Ten-City Workshop Tour" to give tips to small businesses -- that offer environmental products and services -- on how to submit offers to become Federal Supply Schedule contract holders. GSA's Federal Supply Schedule Contracts are the preferred method of procurement for DOD activities and many civilian agencies.
GSA's efforts to attract small businesses with "green" products and services is part of its new "Greening Small Businesses" initiative under the Planet GSA Environmental Program. Planet GSA was started in April 1998, by Administrator Dave Barram as a way to encourage the 14,200 GSA employees and its customer agencies to work together to do more to protect the environment. Planet GSA focuses on Buying, Building, Driving, Managing and Saving Green.
"We are a big buyer," Barram said. "That's not lost on us. We know that when we say, this would be a good thing to do,' it matters to somebody who is trying to make a profit.
Jackie Robinson, Associate Administrator, Office of Enterprise Development added, "With GSA influencing $10.6 billion in the Federal Supply Schedule procurement program, it's easy to see how significant the impact that 'greening' GSA can be."
The 10-City Workshop Tour kicks off in St. Louis, Mo., on Thursday, June 29th. The workshops, which are open to small, minority, women, Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB Zones), and Veteran-owned businesses, are scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon. They will provide opportunities to meet procurement officers from agencies that use GSA Federal Supply Service schedule contracts and learn to prepare offers that would appear on those schedules, the preferred Federal source for products and services. The workshop registration fee is $15, cash at the door only. To receive more information on the workshops, or for information on the Planet GSA environmental program, please contact Johanna Roark, Planet GSA Program Manager, on 202-219-0965 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
