Washington, DC - Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) honored the two winners of its third annual Achievement Award for Real Property Innovation.

The Real Property Innovation Award was developed by GSA's Office of Governmentwide Policy (OGP) to recognize the successes of the Federal real property community, improve communications between real property professionals, and share the best policies and practices implemented by Federal agencies. Both of this year's winning entries were from the best practice category. The winners were:

"Maintenance Cost Savings through Divestiture" -- United States Coast Guard, Department of Transportation "Strategic Positioning" - Energy Center of Expertise, Public Buildings Service, GSA

"These winners were selected from among 30 entries submitted by Federal agencies. The response to the call for entries is exemplary of the commitment to innovation the Federal government is making in the real estate arena," said David Bibb, Deputy Associate Administrator, Office of Real Property, Office of Governmentwide Property.

The success stories submitted by all entrants will be posted on the Internet at
http://policyworks.gov/realproperty and will be featured in a special edition of the Real Property Policysite newsletter.

A five-member independent panel of real estate and management experts representing a cross-section of private, government plus international organizations was established to evaluate the merits of the entries. The judges were Barbara Hampton, former President and Chairperson of the Board of the International Development Research Council; John Kamensky, Deputy Director, National Partnership for Reinventing Government; James S. Toothaker, Director of Office Systems and Services, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection; Paul J. Choquette, Regional Director General, Ontario Region, Public Works and Government Services Canada; and Todd Lewers, representing the Building Owners and Management Association and Vice President - Real Estate, Apex Site Management, Inc.
