Washington, DC -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and Government Executive magazine will co-sponsor the National Travel Conference 2000: The Ticket to the New Millennium, October 30 - November 1, 2000 in Orlando, Florida. This is the first nationwide gathering of federal travel managers and travel industry representatives. It will focus on improving communication and interaction between federal agencies and industry.
"GSA is taking aggressive steps to improve travel management throughout the government and to encourage a collaborative approach to working with industry and the federal agencies to streamline federal travel," said Associate Administrator for GSA's Office of Governmentwide Policy G. Martin Wagner.
Over 96,000 federal employees travel each workday and the federal government spends nearly $8 billion a year on official employee travel. The workshops, plenary sessions, and more than 400 vendor exhibits will provide a full range of travel-related topics, current issues, and future trends to help federal travel managers do their jobs more effectively.
The conference will provide information and policy updates to enable federal travel managers to better perform their job of managing the government's travel.
Government Executive will present its annual Travel Managers of the Year Awards at the National Travel Conference 2000. According to Government Executive Editor and President Timothy B. Clark, "The awards shine the spotlight on agencies that exemplify the best in government business travel." Clark also said that net year will bring yet more streamlining, cost savings, morale improvement and customer satisfaction in the travel arena.
A Travel Conference 2000 web site is in production, and will soon provide the latest details on conference registration and other logistics. For more information, contact Peggy DeProspero on 202-501-2826.
