FCW Top 100 Lists GSA Administrator, Five Associates

WASHINGTON – U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Stephen Perry, along with five other GSA information technology (IT) leaders, will be recognized this evening at the Federal Computer Week (FCW) 15th annual Federal 100 awards gala in Tysons Corner, Va.
Candidates are chosen by the readers of FCW of Fairfax, Va. An independent panel of judges selects the winners, based on their 2003 calendar year contributions to federal IT development, acquisition and management. The GSA associates who are among the 2004 Federal 100 winners to be honored at the Ritz-Carlton, are:
- Stephen A. Perry, GSA Administrator, who showed strong, steady leadership during a busy and eventful year for GSA, which, among its multitude of responsibilities, manages five of the president’s 24 E-Government initiatives.
- Timothy Burke, E-Gov Program Manager for E-Travel, was responsible for launching a travel management solution for 93,000 federal, civilian employees, whose business travel generates $5 billion in airline sales each year.
- Martha A. Dorris, Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Solutions, has successfully led GSA’s government-wide USA Services initiative and other national and international E-Gov efforts.
- David Drabkin, Deputy Associate Administrator for Acquisition Policy, finds solutions to complex, government-wide acquisition problems, including, in 2003, leading the development of an upgraded computer system to track federal procurement information, increasing understanding of the Clinger-Cohen Act procurement reforms and leading the effort to promote performance-based contracting.
- Beverly Godwin, Director of FirstGov, the U.S. government’s official Web portal that links to more than 129,000 Web sites. In 2003, the number of FirstGov.gov page visits exceeded 176 million. In the same year, FirstGov developed FirstGgov en Español, a Spanish Web portal to meet the needs and preferences of 28 million Spanish-speaking U.S. residents.
- Teresa Sorrenti, Program Manager for Integrated Acquisition Environment, the E-Gov initiative that promotes sharing of information and services across government acquisition offices. She was instrumental in setting up the IAE’s governance process.
GSA is a centralized federal procurement, property management, and policy agency, created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. It acquires, on behalf of federal agencies, office space, equipment, telecommunications, information technology, supplies and services. It also plays a key role in developing and implementing government-wide policies. GSA’s 13,000 associates provide services and solutions for the office operations of more than one million federal workers located in more than 8,000 government-owned and leased buildings in 2,000 U.S. communities.
