Construction Wraps Up on FBI Field Office in Chesapeake, VA
Construction is coming to a successful completion on a new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Norfolk Field Office in Chesapeake, VA. The Field Office will serve as Regional Headquarters for the Tidewater, VA, area, providing support for the critical mission of the FBI. The new facility will include a dedicated command center the FBI will use when responding to emergencies, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
The facility is a new build-to-suit lease construction located on a secure campus that includes an office building of approximately 131,460 rentable square feet, an annex building, secure structured parking, and a visitor screening facility. The goal of this project was to deliver a facility using time-tested design and construction practices, while at the same time incorporating the latest building system technologies and environmentally sound design methods to satisfy all identified needs of the FBI.
The GSA Design Excellence in Leasing program and Building Information Modeling (BIM) design techniques helped the team produce a modern facility designed with sustainability in mind. It is expected to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold Certification for new construction.
The project was successfully completed on-schedule and under budget. “The new FBI Norfolk Field Office is coming on-line in November 2013 as scheduled,” says GSA Project Manager Charlie Hearn. “Our team has experienced extraordinary partnering among the GSA, FBI, and The Walsh Group design-build development team in delivering a high quality, custom facility for the FBI in Chesapeake, VA.”
