Administrator Doan Helps Launch USA.GOV

We are a most amazing country.
Abraham Lincoln correctly noted that our government is …”of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
We are a government that runs ONLY on the consent of the people, for it is “WE the people of the United States” where power and consent for government resides. This of course is the great genius of the Founding Fathers.
But for the whole thing to work, Americans must have unrestricted and free access to their government. They must be able to freely understand government operations and efforts, rules, warnings, regulations. They must have information and it has to be accurate and timely. A government of the people, by the people and for the people can only operate when Americans are well informed.
I am IMMENSELY proud of the USA.Gov initiative.
And though it was launched and managed by some amazing employees of the General Services Administration, this website belongs to the people… It is your website and it exists for only two reasons: to help citizens understand the issues of the day, and to help us to hold our government accountable.
In fact, we have five such citizens with us today. Let me introduce:
Connie Revell, Deputy Director of the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center in San Francisco;
David Molchany, Deputy County Executive, Fairfax County Government, in Fairfax, Virginia;
Cynthia Warner, a professor of Public Administration at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina;
Betty Paugh Ortiz, Director of Programs and Operations for the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships.
And Jaime Zlatanov, a graduate of Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
It’s a great day for “WE the People” because we at GSA, and our newly launched website, USA.GOV are going to make that task easier.
