On August 5, the 2007 GovEnergy Conference opened in New Orleans. The conference targets federal energy professionals and facility mangers, and includes more than 200 speakers. The workshops help federal agencies reduce energy use and costs and to meet requirements outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

GSA Administrator Lurita Doan joined 55 other GovEnergy attendees who traveled to the Zion neighborhood in New Orleans to install "Energy Tool Kits" in selected renovated homes. Some of these items included:

  • Energy saving light bulbs;
  • Shower heads;
  • Weather stripping for doors and windows; and
  • Attic insulation blankets.

GSA co-sponsors the annual conference with the Departments of Defense, Energy, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Environmental Protection Agency. For the fourth consecutive year, this event has been designated as a "Green Meeting and Trade Show."
