GSA Co-Sponsors GovEnergy Conference

GSA's Acting Administrator Bibb and Public Buildings Service Energy Program's Karen Curran review building energy consumption at the GovEnergy Workshop and Tradeshow in Phoenix, AZ.

The 11th GovEnergy Conference, which GSA is co-sponsoring with the Departments of Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs and the Environmental Protection Agency, opened on August 3 in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference is geared to help federal agencies reduce energy use and costs and to meet requirements outlined in the newly enacted Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

Over 2,500 facility and energy managers from the federal, state, and private sectors attended the 104 training sessions presented by 237 energy and environmental professionals.

Acting GSA Administrator David Bibb and former CIA Director James Woolsey keynoted the opening breakfast on Monday August 4.

GovEnergy is the premiere annual training conference for federal energy and facility managers. This is the second year it will provide education credits for attendees. Innovative Green meeting efforts include using disposable utensils from corn, plates from sugar cane, organic food from local suppliers, and having training, hotels and offsite events within walking distance to eliminate the need for transportation.

The event also features a multi-million dollar showcase of products, equipment, and services from more than 100 companies and consultants.
