GSA Exceeds $1 Billion in Recovery Act Building Projects
GSA has just marked a major milestone by obligating over $1 billion of Recovery Act funds for building projects. GSA's Public Building Service's first $1 billion in contract awards is for 120 projects spread across 43 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Projects include:
Designing and building a new courthouse in Austin, Texas that will meet both the future needs of the courts as well as security requirements;
Developing a Land Port of Entry in Otay Mesa, California that will accommodate better commercial traffic flow, and have new primary inspection booths as well as office and processing areas;
Improving energy performance while enhancing security by installing energy efficient, blast resistant windows surrounded by improved insulation at the John F. Kennedy Federal Building in Boston, Massachusetts.
These Recovery Act projects provide jobs for constructions workers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, architects, and engineers nationwide, for those in associated services, and create new opportunities in green industries.
