Mariposa Border Crossing
Recovery Act Project to Incorporate Green Building Technologies
Official representatives from both sides of the border joined in breaking ground on the modernization of the Mariposa Land Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona recently. The $213 million project, funded primarily by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, includes the demolition and reconstruction of all facilities within the nation’s third-busiest border crossing.
The new facility will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and will feature a solar panel array that is expected to offset up to 20 percent of the facility’s power consumption.
