Smart Buildings
A “Smart Building” integrates major building systems onto a common network and shares information and functionality between systems in order to improve building operations. GSA has been a pioneer in using Smart Building technologies but has yet to achieve the full benefits of an integrated, enterprise-wide Smart Buildings strategy.
Applied Research completed a feasibility study in April 2009, which recommended that GSA pursue a Smart Buildings strategy to achieve benefits in these three categories:
- Improved energy efficiency
- Enhanced operational effectiveness
- Increased tenant satisfaction
GSA has subsequently adopted a smart buildings strategy, which is led by the Office of Facilities Management and Services Programs.
