Using the Forecast of Contracting Opportunities

The Forecast of Contracting Opportunities provides a wealth of information about GSA's projected acquisitions at or above a $25,000 threshold. Whether or not your small business is ready to compete for this business, the forecast's data elements, acronyms, regional breakdown, and explanation of terms gives the small business owner a window into GSA and what it buys.

The elements of the Forecast include:

  • The part of the GSA organization making the acquisition request
  • Region
  • Award Status
  • Product or Service Description
  • Procurement Classification Code
  • Place of Performance
  • Primary NAICS Code (North American Industrial Classification Code)
  • Socioeconomic Category
  • Contract Type
  • Acquisition Strategy
  • Estimated Contract Value (Minimum/Maximum)
  • Fiscal Year Quarter

GSA highly recommends that small businesses review both pages of the Forecast--the legend and the forecast. While the forecast allows small businesses a window into working for GSA's organization; the legend provides a wealth of terms that help a small business understand the details of a federal business opportunity.

The following video demonstrates how to use the Forecast.
