Hensel Phelps conducts small business outreach for San Ysidro LPOE Phase 2

By Javier Fernandez

On October 21, 2015, Hensel Phelps Construction Company (HP), hosted a small business and vendor outreach event in San Ysidro to highlight subcontracting opportunities for Phase 2 of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry (LPOE) modernization and expansion project. This vendor outreach event was held as part of HP’s efforts to support GSA’s commitment of ensuring small, veteran, service-disabled, minority and women-owned business are fairly represented and have a chance to be part of this large infrastructure project.

The outreach meeting featured a project briefing from HP’s Lead Estimator, Sean O’Mara and bid submittal information from Dr. Giovanna Brasfield, HP’s Outreach and Diversity Manager. HP’s strategic partners for this event, the San Diego Procurement Technical Assistance Center, San Diego Small Business Development Center and San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce attended the event along with over 50 small business owners from across the greater San Diego area.

Phase 2 shifts the project’s focus from vehicle improvements (Phase 1) to pedestrian and infrastructure improvements to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations. This phase includes construction of a new pedestrian processing building, as well as a complete renovation of the historic Customs House. These improvements are designed to reduce northbound pedestrian queues and enhance CBP’s ability to carry out their mission.
