Vibration-Controlled Tools

GSA’s Integrated Facilities Management and Industrial Products Solutions (IFMIPS) Acquisition Center and the Department of Defense/Industry Working Group ensure that a wide variety of Safety-Compliant, handheld ergonomic tools are available to military and civilian customers.

These tools, described in SAE Aerospace Standard AS6228, Safety Requirements for Procurement, Maintenance and Use of Handheld Powered Tools [a nongovernment website], allow for selection of quieter and lower vibration handheld power tools with optimal ergonomic features for the prevention of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) [PDF - 302 KB], hearing loss, and repetitive motion injuries. Tools developed to reduce vibration often have other desirable performance properties such as longer life spans, improved ergonomics and lower noise Levels. General Ergonomic Program Details can be found at the Naval Safety Center site or from your unit safety officer. Please see the program summary [PDF - 373 KB] for details.
