Free Art Show for Colorado Federal Employees, Contractors, and Family Members

At some point in our lives, we’ve all taken an art class or participated in an art project. It’s true, not all of us are born artists. The creative lure tugs at some more than others and let’s face it, it’s tough making a living as an artist. So tough, that according to the National Endowment for the Arts, artists make up only 1.4 percent of the U.S. labor force. That’s roughly 2 million artists in the workforce.

Does art matter and if so, why? Well, GSA thinks so. As an agency, GSA is committed to bringing works of art to each of our federal buildings, as art adds not only vibrancy to public spaces, but it also captures a moment in time of our history. Since 1972, GSA has commissioned 408 artworks through the Art in Architecture Program, approximately 46 of which are displayed in GSA’s Rocky Mountain six-state region. The Art in Architecture and Fine Arts Division is responsible for the commissioning and care of the more than 26,000 pieces in GSA's Fine Arts Collection. Our public art collection helps connect our buildings to our communities, and continues the important tradition of individual creative expression. .

This year, GSA is supporting its second annual federal employee art show. The art show is sponsored by the National Arts Program® (NAP) and the Colorado Federal Executive Board. It is designed to give all artists, at all skill levels, an uninhibited opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner and to compete for cash prizes. Deadline for registration is September 23, 2016.

GSA will host an exhibit at the Byron G. Rogers Federal Building and Courthouse at 1961 Stout Street in Denver from October 17-28. The show will be judged by visual art professionals in Amateur, Intermediate, Professional and Youth/Teen classifications, and it is free to all.
The show is open to all federal employees as well as contract employees in the state of Colorado and their families.
