About FSSI

The Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative (FSSI) implemented strategic sourcing solutions for the government in 2005, achieving proven results that include cost savings, improved management visibility, and adoption of industry and government agency best practices. Federal government purchasing is largely decentralized, so there are often duplicative contracts over many organizational components. Procurement is shaped by the number of contracts, the prices paid on the contracts, and the number of other existing governmentwide or agency-wide solutions. FSSI solutions result in significant price variations across the government for the same products and services, sometimes with the same contractor.

FSSI solutions provide easy access to procurement vehicles which offer business intelligence, best practice solutions, and greater discounts, particularly as business volume increases. Additional benefits include:

  • Fulfillment of OMB's requirement for cross-government FSSI participation;
  • Eases achievement of socioeconomic goals;
  • Better collection and analysis of data for trend identification;
  • Realizing, replicating and expanding cost savings;
  • Re-engineering of business processes;
  • Sharing of lessons learned and best practices; and
  • Streamlining the procurement process
