GSA Adds New Carriers and Destinations to City Pairs
Federal government travelers have 749 more destinations and three new carriers to choose from in the federal air travel program City Pairs. This program continues as the largest managed airline program in the world. It now provides to new carriers and travel locations that were not commercially available for federal employees when traveling on official business.
The City Pairs Program offers 4,299 domestic and 1,423 international destinations. The updated contracts for 2011 include three additional airlines – Continental, Hawaiian, and Southwest – resulting in a total of 13 carrier options.
Leveraging the buying power of the government by pairing sets of federal traveler’s origins and destinations allows GSA to negotiate prices through City Pairs at a significantly discounted cost. The contract is estimated to save taxpayers more than $6.3 billion on discounted one-way airline tickets.
These new options became effective Oct. 1, 2010.
