Public Auction Opens for Georgetown Heating Plant

Jan. 17, 2013

WASHINGTON -- Tomorrow, the U.S. General Services Administration opens the auction for the Georgetown West Heating Plant in Washington, D.C. An online auction is set to begin on Friday, January 18, 2013 with a soft closing date of February 19, 2013. The plant sits on a historic two-acre site near the Georgetown Waterfront, and it once served as a heating source for government facilities. Now that it no longer serves the government’s needs, GSA is moving to dispose of the property through a public auction. Last year, GSA sold more than 100 excess federal properties. The Obama Administration has set aggressive goals to use federal real estate assets more efficiently, and GSA has increased its efforts to help federal agencies identify unneeded properties and get them off of the government’s books.
