Construction Begins on Center for Biological Evaluation and Research

GSA continues to green the Food and Drug Administration headquarters complex with the latest addition, the Center for Biological Evaluation and Research. Construction is beginning on this sustainable 500,000-square-foot office and 482,000-square-foot laboratory space at the White Oak Complex in Silver Spring, Md.

The project is the next step in GSA’s commitment to provide an environmentally friendly, collaborative campus for FDA’s scientist and researchers.

The state-of-the-art FDA complex will consist of more than a dozen facilities, plus parking garages, and a cogeneration plant, which will simultaneously produce heat and electricity. It will be on a 130-acre portion of the White Oak site, housing almost 8,000 employees. The complex seeking a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver rating; although, some of the buildings have achieved gold.

Clark Construction will oversee the work. The total cost for the development is $1.1 billion.
