GSA Ranks Among Best Places to Work in the Federal Government

GSA demonstrates that it is consistently among the most desirable places to work by once again earning a spot in the Top 10 in this year’s "Best Places to Work in the Federal Government” rankings.

The agency placed eighth for overall workplace satisfaction out of 31 large federal agencies. The rankings, which are produced by the Partnership for Public Service and American University’s Institute for the Study of Public Policy Implementation, also score agencies and in 10 workplace categories.

GSA ranked second in both employee compensation and work/life balance, and third in performance-based rewards and strategic management.

The Partnership for Public Service — a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to revitalize the federal government by inspiring people to serve and by transforming the way government works — states on its website that the rankings are a comprehensive rating and analysis of employee satisfaction and commitment in the federal government.

Employee commitment and satisfaction are vital because they directly affect an agency’s overall performance and ability to achieve its mission and attract qualified job seekers, according to the partnership’s website.

Since the inception of the rankings in 2003, GSA has earned a spot in the Top 10 every time, while consistently improving in every leadership category. In the category of effective leadership for senior leaders, GSA improved by 7.6 percent.

In fact, GSA ranked in the Top 10 this year for each of the leadership categories, including management fairness, employee empowerment, supervisory leadership, and senior leadership.

"This increase reflects the leadership alignment around our strategic goals, and the high caliber of our leadership team,” said Administrator Martha Johnson.

The 2010 rankings were released Sept. 1 and are the fifth edition of a series, following the 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009 versions.
