The project successfully transforms this facility into a high performance green building. The project will achieve both LEED Platinum and Energy Star Certifications and reduce the building’s energy usage by approximately 68% from the pre-project baseline. This is the 90Kw photovoltaic solar array adjacent to the parking lot.
"Moving Sky Mirrored" (2013) by R. Scott Baltz. From the artist's statement: "I have created two paintings which complement each other, speaking of the essence of the Maine landscape. Given the courtroom setting, I've created images of a serene nature, with special regard to the tranquility of water. These images were influenced by my interest in transitory light, as experienced in the Maine landscape, exuding a sense of calm and a contained quiet energy."
"Opening Sky Stillness" (2013) oil and wax on wood panel, by R. Scott Baltz.
"'Opening Sky Stillness' is a more intimate view of a pine filled tree line by the waters edge, below a mountain sheathed in golden light."
"A Declaration of Conscience (after Senator Margaret Chase Smith)" (2013) watercolor, acrylic ink, vellum, collage, matte acrylic, xerography and rag paper on canvas.
Senator Smith’s trademark was the red rose she always wore pinned to her lapel. The students who participated in the work-shops with Rollins painted their own roses while listening to re-cords of Ella Fitzgerald, one of the senator’s favorite musicians. To create the finished artwork, Rollins and K.O.S. collaged the students’ watercolor roses over a background papered with fac-similes of Senator Smith’s courageous speech, annotated in her own handwriting.
