GSA Seeks Developer Ideas for Salt Lake City Motor Pool Building

Salt Lake City, UT -- Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced that it will seek ideas from the real estate development community on exchanging the Salt Lake City Motor Pool Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. GSA is asking industry to submit ideas that would allow the government to exchange the building for construction and repair services on other federal facilities. The building is vacant, and this is the first part of the overall process to put the facility to new use and get the best value for the taxpayers.

GSA Rocky Mountain Regional Administrator Susan Damour comments: “We’re no longer using this property so we are looking for ideas from the development community on a potential exchange of the building. We hope to get a diverse set of ideas on how we might revitalize a property that is near Salt Lake City’s downtown central business area, leverage the value of this building, and save taxpayer dollars.”

About the Salt Lake City Motor Pool Building:

  • This is the latest in GSA’s ongoing efforts to make more efficient use of the government's real estate assets while also getting unneeded properties off of the government’s books.
  • The Salt Lake City Motor Pool building consists of approximately 1.54 acres and housed motor pool cars formerly used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation who vacated the facility in November 2012.
  • The property is located at 330 East 200 South, adjacent to the downtown central business area of Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Since completion of construction in 1967, the building has been used as an office and a vehicle repair and storage facility for government fleet vehicles.

About the RFI:

  • GSA’s Request for Information (RFI) is the first step in the process.
  • An RFI is an innovative approach to property disposal that allows stakeholders to provide input on the possible exchange of the building. The government can then use the submissions to make informed decisions and possibly create a deal structure that will dispose of the facility while also letting the government leverage the building for necessary improvements to other government buildings.
  • The RFI is open today and the real estate development community will have until January 5th 2015 to provide input and posted online to FedBizOpps.gov.
  • GSA will also host an industry day on Thursday, November 13, that will allow interested parties to learn more about submitting ideas.
  • The RFI is posted on www.fbo.gov and www.gsa.gov/slcmotorpool.
