Workplace Utilization - Disposal

President Obama is committed to ensuring that the entire federal government uses its space as effectively and efficiently as possible. GSA has the expertise and specialized skills to assist agencies in reducing their space by disposing, exchanging, transferring, or repurposing unneeded or underutilized real property.

In FY 2014, GSA disposed of 342 properties, which generated $42.7 million in proceeds. These transactions represent over a 60% increase in the volume of disposals from FY 2013.

GSA’s Office of Real Property Utilization and Disposal (RPU&D) works with all federal landholding agencies to develop realty strategies tailored to an asset’s specific characteristics, including environmental issues, historic preservation, community interests, and market conditions. RPU&D’s extensive network of realty specialists across the country enables the office to build quality partnerships with other agencies, local communities, and additional stakeholders. To deliver these services, RPU&D offers a wide array of realty analytics and due diligence reviews. The program has cultivated unique transactional resources and state-of-the-art marketing tools, including GSA’s enhanced auction platform.
