Government-wide Vehicle Purchasing Trends: Alternative Fuel Vehicle (AFV)

Federal agencies are mandated by the Energy Policy Act (EPAct), Executive Order 13423 and 13514, the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), and the May 2011 Presidential Memorandum to purchase alternative fuel vehicles, increase consumption of alternative fuels, and reduce petroleum consumption. GSA Fleet strives to assist federal customers in acquiring vehicles that help to meet federal sustainability requirements and reduce costs. Fleet has achieved measurable success in this endeavor.

 

This chart shows the percentage of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) in GSA Fleet. In FY2009, 51.6 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2010, 67.2 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2011, 80.3 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2012, 75.4 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2013, 82.1 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2014, 80.9 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs. In FY2015, 82.8 percent of vehicles in GSA Fleet were AFVs.
