GSA to Sell Appraisers’ Stores

PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced its plan to sell the Appraisers’ Stores building in Baltimore, Maryland.  The sale will open for bids starting March 2015 and GSA will hold Open Houses and site viewings at the facility on:

• Wednesday, March 25     2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Thursday, March 26         9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

• Wednesday, April 22       2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Thursday, April 23          9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

• Wednesday, May 20     2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Thursday, May 21         9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

“GSA is actively working with federal agencies to identify and timely dispose of unneeded properties,” said Sara Manzano-Diaz, Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator. “Moving properties into the disposal process makes more efficient use of the government’s real estate assets.  The sale of this property has the potential to help spur new development.”

In 2014, GSA sold or transferred 342 facilities across the country, generating more than $42.7 million in sales.  This is a 60% increase in the volume of disposals from 2013.

The Appraisers’ Stores is located at 103 South Gay Street in the Baltimore’s Central Business District (CBD) and just blocks away from the Inner Harbor, at the intersection of Lombard and South Gay Streets.  The Appraisers’ Stores is an Art Deco architectural style building constructed in 1934.  It is an eight-story, 169,801 gross square foot structure situated on approximately 0.387 acre.  The total rentable area is 147,272 square feet.  The building was constructed for the U.S. Customs Services and the primary intended use was to provide space for storing, appraising, and inspecting imported merchandise brought through the Port of Baltimore.  The building does not provide onsite parking, but street parking is available and two large privately-owned parking garages are located adjacent to the site.  The building was initially constructed as examination/laboratory space for the United States Customs Service in conjunction with the nearby Customs House. The Customs Service vacated the Appraisers’ Stores in 1983 and made it available for use by other federal agencies as office space.
