Reinvigorated by Sustainability

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, GSA is converting three outdated buildings in the Chicago Loop Retail Historic District into modern, energy-efficient federal office facilities. The project involves buildings at 10 W. Jackson Blvd., 18 W. Jackson Blvd., and 230 S. State St.

The project includes repairing roofs, replacing windows, and installing a modern heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system that uses occupancy and carbon dioxide sensors to optimize energy use. When complete, the project will set a new standard for adaptive reuse, and will exemplify the federal government’s commitment to urban cores.

The 10 W. Jackson Blvd. building will receive a complete modernization, including wall replacements to improve thermal performance, and an upgrade of its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This building will eventually house offices for the Department of Labor.
