GSA Supports Small Business at Missile Defense Agency Annual Small Business Programs Conference

Region 4 GSA supported the Missile Defense Agency, in conjunction with the National Defense Industrial Association Huntsville Chapter, at its annual Small Business Programs Conference in Huntsville, AL, August 13th-14th, 2015. The goal of the conference was to reach out to the small business community and emphasize how their agility and innovativeness play a vital role in the Ballistic Missile Defense Mission.  The conference included briefings from the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Office of Small Business Programs, the Directors of MDA Acquisitions, MDA Contracts and Program Office officials on upcoming MDA procurements.

GSA Direct Client Support (DCS), Business Analyst, Chanda Tallman, and Customer Accounts and Research (CAR), Customer Service Director (CSD), Jennifer Rapé represented GSA throughout the event.  GSA was just one of the Federal Agencies on hand from the Huntsville Acquisition community; NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Army Contracting Command Redstone, Missile Defense Agency, and the Space and Missile Defense Command also participated in the event. Along with these Federal agencies and Prime contractor representatives, GSA had an exhibit table where they met with small businesses throughout the event and provided Acquisition information and guidance.

The highlight of the two day conference was Friday's Matchmaking Event. Chanda and Jennifer were able to sit, one on one, with individual company representatives answering any questions they had concerning GSA. The companies ranged from Small Businesses with no knowledge of GSA, those currently pursuing a GSA Schedule Contract, and those looking to get more out of their GSA Schedule Contract. GSA supported two tables and were able to meet one on one with more than 20 contractors.

The most frequently asked questions were related to GSA's One Acquisition Solution for Integrated Services (OASIS). With the recent announcement of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to use the OASIS and OASIS Small Business Contract Vehicles, DHS is the third Federal Agency utilizing OASIS as part of its strategic sourcing program.
