TRAFFIC ADVISORY | INFORME DE TRAFICO

April 8, 2013 to September 30, 2013: Primary inspection booth and lanes improvements will occur on northbound lanes 1 - 6 from 8 a.m. Monday, April 8 to 8 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, effectively closing those lanes. Drivers are advised to utilize available lanes on the middle and western side of the port. SENTRI lanes will begin at lane 10 and continue westward. Lane 11 will serve as the dedicated bus lane. Planned lane closures are subject to change without notice. Please follow all traffic redirection signs. For the latest traffic conditions and wait time please call (619) 690-8999.

On April 19, 2013, Representatives Susan Davis (CA-53), Scott Peters (CA-52), and Juan Vargas (CA-51) toured the busiest land border crossing in the Western Hemisphere. GSA Regional Administrator Ruth Cox, Project Executive Scott Shin, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations Director Pete Flores briefed the congressional delegation, providing an overview of the port expansion and reconfiguration project, current construction status, staffing levels, and operational efficiency initiatives.

Interstate 5 lane configuration completed

Southbound Interstate 5 lane reconfiguration at the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry
Southbound Interstate 5 is reconfigured to join the El Chaparral inspection station in Mexico.

The Pacific Rim Region recently completed construction on the southbound Interstate 5 freeway lane reconfiguration project, which allowed the new Mexican inspection station, El Chaparral, to officially open for operations along the busy San Diego - Tijuana border on November 1, 2012.

Sustainable roof installed over inspection area

Construction crews at the San Ysidro LPOE install the 53,000 square-foot ETFE roof.

In early July 2012, a roof made of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) went up over the secondary inspection area of the port. The material, a polymer used in place of glass or plastic, was most famously used to construct the shell of the Beijing National Aquatics Center (aka “Water Cube”), where the swimming events of the 2008 Summer Olympics took place.
