U.S. Land Port of Entry at Alexandria Bay, New York


Over 40 years old, problems will be resolved in a two-phase $215 million construction project that began in summer 2017. The completed land port will feature larger queuing and secondary inspection areas, more inspection lanes, and better-defined truck queuing and maneuvering areas in addition to many other enhancements. The finished project will increase the overall efficiency of the port and improve traffic flow.

  • Mission: to inspect and process vehicles and individuals entering the United States from Canada.
  • Phase 1 includes construction of a commercial inspection warehouse with inspection bays, commercial inspection lanes (with split-level booths for either commercial or non-commercial), impound lot, and a portion of the elevated parking over the commercial side. Also includes acquisition of the two remaining necessary parcels of land
  • Phase 2 includes construction of a new main administration building, a new outbound inspection facility, a new veterinary services building, non-commercial inspection lanes, a new non-commercial secondary inspection plaza, new non-intrusive inspection buildings, and employee and visitor parking areas


  • September 2022 - Contract completion.
  • Change order and warranty will continue beyond September 2022.


  • Cost: $215 million
  • Congressional appropriations:​
    • Phase 1 funding appropriated in fiscal year 2016 budget
    • Phase 2 funding appropriated in fiscal year 2018 in the amount of approximately $133 million
