New Fort Lauderdale U.S. Courthouse
In fiscal year 2018 and 2023, Congress approved funding for the construction of a 255,000-gross-square-foot federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to better meet the space and security needs of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The new courthouse will include twelve courtrooms and seventeen judges’ chambers and will provide workspace for several other federal agencies, including the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Probation Office.
Current Status
Design of the new Courthouse began in March of 2023 and is approximately 35% complete. Design is planned to be complete in August 2024. GSA has separated out scope items to allow an early start of limited construction work. This scope includes preparation of the site and installation of a new seawall along the Tarpon River. This allows some construction to start as early as November 2023. In addition, AT&T and the City of Ft Lauderdale are working to relocate existing utilities that run through the site.
