Tomochichi Federal Building and Savannah U.S. Courthouse
Tomochichi Federal Building and Savannah U.S. Courthouse

In 2016, GSA announced Congress appropriated funds for multiple Federal Courthouse construction projects across the nation, including modernizing the historic Tomochichi Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Savannah, Georgia, to meet the Federal Judiciary’s current and long-term needs for security, accessibility and operational efficiency.
Current status
The current construction phase of the project is on hold since April 11 following a partial collapse of the third floor in one section of the courthouse. As part of the recovery process, contractors installed 8-foot barricades inside the space to limit access to the accident site. Repair work will begin the first week of June and last about four weeks. Using a crane to remove debris will require 1-2 days of road closures. We will share closure details in advance through this webpage and with local media.
Other road closures and lane shifts include:
- Bull Street between State and York Streets, closed through Sept. 24, 2024.
- The 00 block of West York Street, where the south side through-lane will shift through the parking lane until March 13, 2024, to provide a safe area for courthouse scaffold construction, deliveries, and material hoisting.
