The Greater Southwest Region's two primary missions during times of emergency are federal continuity and national response. Emergency Management & Security Branch (EM&S) supports the regional Federal Acquisition Service, Public Building Service and staff offices to fulfill these missions.
The federal continuity mission includes the ability to continue GSA regional operations and to assist other federal agencies with their reconstitution and recovery efforts. The key resources within the region supported these critical functions in response to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike.
The national response mission includes direct support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Environmental Protection Agency and United States Coast Guard, depending on the situation. Types of support include identifying sources and acquiring emergency supplies and services and acquiring real property meet the critical needs within the region. EM&S assists in the coordination of the GSA mission essential functions needed to prepare for, respond to and recover from any disaster.

The EM&S is committed to the continuity of the federal government’s mission essential functions and the prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery from all hazards that may affect our communities.
