GSA is focused on delivering the best value in real estate to our federal partners and the American people. The Salt Lake City Motor Pool building consists of approximately 1.54 acres and housed motor pool cars formerly used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation who vacated the facility in November 2012. GSA is moving forward with a plan that will let industry and stakeholders weigh in on putting this facility to new use.

GSA has retooled the previous solicitation resulting in a simplified, more appealing Request for Proposal (RFP) to potential exchange partners. The government is still looking to exchange the property for improvements to be made at the Hansen Federal Building in Ogden, UT, however; the menu of projects has been reduced to include only two required base projects as well as a cash equalization payment. To make this a more appealing project, this new scope has limited environmental remediation and required night work.

This property represents a valuable asset for GSA and the government, and the RFP is the first step in finding a new purpose for the building.

GSA hopes to use an exchange of the property to improve the IRS building while reducing federal expenses within the existing inventory. As part of GSA’s ongoing efforts to make more efficient use of government property, dispose of unneeded assets, and save taxpayer dollars, the agency has launched a process aimed to leverage the expertise of the real estate industry to help determine the optimal disposal solution for the Salt Lake City Motor Pool building.

Through this RFP, GSA hopes to partner with the real estate industry to explore new and innovative solutions that maximize the value of the Salt Lake City Motor Pool building. The RFP is an opportunity to identify smart and financially viable options that benefit all parties.

As always, GSA’s goal is to achieve best value to the government and taxpayers, through the most beneficial technical and financial solution.
