The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016, included Congressionally-appropriated funding for a new U.S. Courthouse in Nashville, TN. The General Services Administration (GSA) has begun design of a new U.S. Courthouse of approximately 280,000 gross square feet, including underground parking spaces in Nashville, TN. GSA will construct the U.S. Courthouse to meet the 10-year space needs of the court and court-related agencies. The new courthouse will provide eight courtrooms and 11 chambers to accommodate 11 judges (four active District Judges, three Senior Judges, one visiting District Judge, and three Magistrate Judges). The new Nashville U.S. Courthouse project is currently scheduled for completion in the spring of 2021. The site, assembled in 2012 through a prior appropriation, would accommodate the 30-year needs of the court. The tenant agencies for the project include: U.S. District Court; U.S. Probation; U.S. Marshals Service; GSA Field Office; U.S. Senate; U.S. Attorneys Office; and Randolph-Sheppard Act retail concessions vendor.

Current Status

Based on the inclusion of the Nashville project in the President’s FY2016 budget, a refresh of the prior design was initiated. The site consists of a consolidated parcel with existing structures to be demolished. The Region has completed demolition of two smaller structures at the southeast corner of the site. This area has been stabilized and awaiting further site development as part of the overall project. The unoccupied TennCare office building was demolished in the spring 2017. The demolition was completed by GSA contractor, Katmai. There is still one large structure left to abate and demolish, an active Parking Garage. GSA has awarded a demolition contract to ICE Technologies, Inc. The contractor will demolish the parking garage, remove underground storage tanks and prepare the site for the design-build services contractor. The anticipated award for the design-build services contractor is in the winter of the new calendar year 2018.
