GSA constructed the Forensic Chemistry Center as a build-to-suit lease for the Food and Drug Administration in June 1998, before eventually exercising the contract's purchase option in June 2018. According to the FDA website, the FCC "serves as the FDA’s premier national forensic laboratory for method development, research, and analyses related to criminal, regulatory, and counter terrorism investigations."
Property Manager: David Zeeb
Public Hours: The building is not open to the public. The FDA does host training and scientific demonstrations for civilians but by invitation only.
The building features conference rooms and a large eating area with vending machines. Onsite parking is reserved for FDA.
The building's exterior combines horizontal corrugated metal siding, precast concrete panels, intermediate horizontal reveals and 1”-thick insulated glass panels mounted in aluminum storefront frames.
The building is currently in design for a major capital project to modernize the lab and upgrade the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
