Christopher S. Bond U.S. Courthouse

80 Lafayette Street
Jefferson City, MO 65101

The Christopher S. Bond U.S. Courthouse was dedicated on Sept. 27, 2011. The 118,000-square-foot facility overlooking the Missouri River is named for the former U.S. Senator from Missouri and houses the Central Division of the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Western District of Missouri.

This facility is home of the U.S. Courts family in Jefferson City, which is part of the 8th Circuit Court in the Western District of Missouri. It provides space for two district courtrooms and two magistrate courtrooms. In addition, there is space for a bankruptcy chamber, the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney, Probation, and Pretrial Services.

Plans for the new facility were announced in January 2006 following an appropriation from Congress to begin designing the building. Construction began on the courthouse December 2008 and was substantially complete in June 2011, one month ahead of schedule. The courthouse project was also completed at a total cost of $67.7 million, $3.5 million under budget.

The building was designed to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold rating. Sustainable design features include reducing water use by 44 percent, using 13 percent recycled content, diverting 80 percent of construction waste materials from landfills, and it is 36 percent more efficient than current energy standards.
