IRS Enterprise Computing Center Project Decreases Rent by 32%

GSA successfully completed moving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) into the consolidated Enterprise Computing Center in Kearneysville, West Virginia. The 400,000 square foot facility is one of three national mission-critical data centers used for tax processing.

The project consolidated 100 percent of the IRS Annex function into the Enterprise Computing Center, eliminating 122,475 square feet of government leased space, saving $3 million annually in lease costs and decreasing the agency’s annual rent by an estimated 32 percent.

Both buildings were part of a study IRS completed to reduce data center space nationally. National Workplace Standards were implemented by creating a mobile work environment through desk sharing, reducing the number of workspaces by an estimated 29 percent and improving the utilization rate dramatically.

The move was completed in October 2018.
