Melissa Wetzel graduates from the Federal Internal Coaching Training Program
Mid-Atlantic PBS recently added a new “coach” to the team. Melissa Wetzel, Delaware Valley Field Office Manager, recently graduated from the Federal Internal Coaching Training Program (FICTP).
FICTP is a rigorous multi-agency program certified by the International Coach Federation. Graduates provide professional coaching to federal employees and foster a coaching culture by encouraging respectful conversations between managers and employees, encouraging self-reflection, and promoting creativity in problem solving and performance improvement.
This training and experience provides a benefit to not only Wetzel and her GSA colleagues, but she is translating her skills to working with her clients. In government, coaching is used to address professional or business-related challenges. Coaches are trained to have structured conversations that allow for translating insights into actions. This can be applied to not only personal development for a coaching subject, but also problem solving dialogue as it pertains to developing client agency requirements into tangible projects.
Wetzel’s “coaching declaration” includes the statement, “I partner with each client to gain an understanding of their goals and desired outcomes.” This not only applies to her one on one work with GSA colleagues, but is demonstrated in her philosophy of delivering client agency outcomes that meet their mission goals. Wetzel states, “Through open-ended exploratory questions, I can facilitate and explore customer’s goals and opportunities as well as work through challenges and obstacles that could arise.”
