NASA Lab captures two industry awards

The Measurement Systems Laboratory project located at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, received recognition in the fall from two local industry award programs.

The Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate recognized the project with a 2022 Award of Excellence in Development Design under the Best Institutional/Public Building category. This program highlights and rewards excellence in design projects.

The Associated Builders and Contractors Central Virginia/Hampton Roads Chapter recognized the project with a 2022 Excellence in Construction Award under the Federal Over $5 Million category. The industry award program recognizes outstanding local projects and serves to raise the level of construction standards through strong teamwork and cooperation between contractors and suppliers.

W.M. Jordan Company, GSA’s general contractor, submitted both nominations on behalf of the project team including NASA Langley, architectural engineering firm AECOM, and construction management firm Hill International.

The five-story 175,000 gross square foot Measurement Systems Laboratory supports research and development of new measurement concepts, technologies and systems that will enable NASA to achieve its missions in space exploration, science and aeronautics. Designed for flexibility and collaboration, this facility hosts 48 labs for various research and development operations including electronics, lasers, clean room operations and instrumentation. GSA delivered this LEED Gold facility for NASA and the facility opened in April 2022.
