Building for the Future: Development Projects
A number of projects which are underway within the National Capital Region (NCR) offer unique development opportunities for the private sector to collaborate with the public sector to develop federally owned land for private sector use. Please see the list of projects below.
GSA is marketing for sale the property at 49 L Street, SE. The warehouse has been determined surplus for GSA and will be sold through a public online auction.
GSA is seeking to find a new headquarters location for the FBI. The project involves exchanging the existing building for a new facility that can accommodate the FBI's headquarter operations and allow it to consolidate into one location. Currently this project is on hold.
GSA, in coordination with the U.S. Department of State, proposes to prepare a master plan for the Potomac Hill Campus, which is property consisting of two adjoining federally owned historic parcels known as Navy Hill and the Potomac Annex.
The Southeast Federal Center (SEFC) is located in the District’s Southeast neighborhood, within a mile of the U.S. Capitol Building. The enactment of the Southeast Federal Center Public-Private Development Act of 2000, Public Law 106-407, has given GSA special authority to adopt innovative, flexible approaches for working with the private sector to develop the SEFC site. By leveraging the private sector’s creativity, experience, and resources, GSA transformed the SEFC site into an asset where office workers, residents and visitors can live and work. The result is an exciting mixture of land uses including residential, commercial, and office space replete with a waterfront park, open spaces and innovative design.
GSA obtained approval for the Master Plan in January 2009. St. Elizabeths West Campus will be a high security campus for federal agencies.
