GSA Celebrates America Recycles Day November 15

November 10, 2014

Release Date: Nov. 10, 2014

Recycling has come a long way since its inception. Now, GSA have programs across the country to recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, batteries, cell phones, and computers, as well as a wealth of consumer goods made out of recycled content. America Recycles Day held every year on November 15, seeks to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling and buying products made with recycled materials.

GSA celebrates America Recycles Day every day by providing comprehensive recycle and compost programs to our tenants to divert as much waste from landfills as possible. In FY 2014, GSA's Northwest/Arctic Region collected and recycled more than 77,000 pounds of electronic waste. We also diverted more than 2,500 tons of waste and landfills, and achieved a 63 percent waste diversion rate. Property managers also promote and raise awareness by hosting brown bag lunch sessions, and recycling events to collect electronic waste, batteries, and unused clothing.

The spirit of “America Recycles” GSA encourages everyone to recycle every day and buy recycled content materials throughout the year. To celebrate this year:

  • buy more recycled content products
  • increase your recycling efforts at home and work
  • participate in other recycling-related efforts or community events
