Northwest/Arctic Region's Angela Shoda honored by the Department of Defense with Patriot Award

Release Date: May 14, 2014

The Washington Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, recently honored Northwest/Arctic Region’s Financial Management Officer Angela Shoda with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of her employee, Nina Lampron, who serves in the United States Navy Reserve (USNR). According to Bob Dewald, ESGR Washington Chair, the organization created ‘The Patriot Award’ to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Regional Financial Management Analyst Nina Lampron, a Lieutenant Commander of the USNR’s DLA Disposition Team, Ft. Lewis, nominated Angela Shoda for being highly supportive of the Navy Reserve.

“Angela fostered a work environment that displays camaraderie among her employees. Prior to my deployment she checked with Human Resources to ensure I was aware of all the benefits and requirements allowed under my federal employment,” said Nina. “During my deployment she kept in touch with my family and me, as well as sending me care packages. The personal touch of getting packages and letters made me feel missed, and a valued employee. I did not feel pressured to return to work early, and I never had any concerns for my job security during my nine month mobilization. The transition back to my civilian job was smooth. I feel like I am back to my work family. The deployment was a once in a lifetime experience, but I can see myself remaining at GSA until my retirement. Angela truly made my deployment manageable and I feel blessed to have her as my supervisor.”

A 14-year Navy Reserve Officer, Lampron was deployed as a Naval Reserve Operations Officer for Defense Logistic Agency Dispositions Services from June through December 2013. As the Operations Officer, she provided technical advice and support to contingency bases throughout Afghanistan regarding the disposal of unserviceable materials.
