Georgia's First Lady Promotes Literacy at Federal Childcare Center
July 6, 2017
Sandra Deal
On June 20, students of the KIDazzle Child Care Center received a visit from a very special guest. Sandra Deal, wife of Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and former teacher, visited the childcare center to read to the children as part of her “Read Across Georgia” initiative. This initiative was established by Mrs. Deal to help raise the percentage of Georgia students reading at grade level by the completion of third grade.
The kids were all ears as Mrs. Deal read Eric Carle’s timeless children’s classic, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” In addition to reading to the students, Mrs. Deal asked them questions about the story and chatted with staff members about the center’s many academic programs.
KIDazzle Child Care and Learning Center, located at the Federal Aviation Administration’s Regional Headquarters building in College Park, GA, is one of more than 100 independently operated Child Care Centers located in
GSA-managed spaces across the country.
For more than 25 years, GSA has helped federal workers gain access to workplace child care facilities. These centers offer safe, high quality care to federal workers and citizens. GSA also provides guidance, assistance, and oversight to federal agencies for the development of Child Care Programs.
More than 7,600 children of federal employees and citizens receive care in GSA-managed facilities. While federal employees make up a large percentage of Child Care customers, GSA Child Care Centers are open to the community at large.
