Federal Property for Sale on RealEstateSales.gov

You may already know that GSA is the real estate agent for the federal government, and we assist federal agencies with disposal of properties that no longer serve a federal need.  In many cases, we sell them through our online auction site, realestatesales.gov.   This includes all types of real property: vacant land, residential homes, commercial buildings, warehouses, and historic lighthouses.

The GSA auction site RealEstateSales.gov allows you to bid on unneeded federal property

In addition to giving the public an opportunity to bid on government assets, the disposing of unneeded properties is helping to create a more sustainable government by reducing the federal real estate footprint. In June of 2010, President Obama issued a Presidential Memorandum directing federal agencies to focus on improving the management of the government’s real estate and getting unneeded properties off our books.  Agencies have risen to the challenge and identified opportunities that exceed the President’s goal to realize $3 billion in savings from the government’s properties by September 30, 2012.

It’s easy to see what is available on realestatesales.gov.  After you log on to the website, you can search via the type of property that you are looking for or by state.  If you are interested in bidding, you just register online and join the auction. It’s that simple!

Some of the properties currently up for sale include a 1874 historic lighthouse in Fairfield, Connecticut.  The property is a 51-foot tall octagonal light structure attached to a square two-story keeper’s quarters.  The light structure was built in the Second Empire Style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Last week, we auctioned a former U.S. Coast Guard Admiral’s home in the suburbs of the Seattle metro area for $635,000. The home  has over 3,000 square feet of living space, with 4 bedrooms and spectacular views of Lake Washington, Mount Rainer and the Seattle skyline.  The home is in the in-demand City of Clyde Hill, and the auction moved the property fast.

So if you are looking to invest in real estate, don’t overlook what the federal government has to sell. Bookmark realestatesales.gov today and visit often. You never know what kind of deals you’ll find.
