GSA Tech Innovators Earn 2013 FedScoop 50 Awards


Government IT media group FedScoop has named seven of GSA’s innovators and programs as winners of their FedScoop 50 Awards honoring high achievers in the government IT community.

This septet of winners included Administrator Dan Tangherlini, Associate Administrator Dave McClure, Chief Information Officer Casey Coleman, Deputy Chief Information Officer Sonny Hashmi, Digital Services Innovation Center Director Gwynne Kostin, the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies’ SocialGov program and the GSALink Smart Buildings program.  Drawn from an incredible pool of fifteen nominated GSA people and programs, these seven winners exemplify GSA’s mission to lead with innovation and deliver the best value in government technology-related endeavors.

  • FedMentor of the Year: Administrator Dan Tangherlini has shared his experiences, learned first locally and now in federal service, leading GSA to improve the government’s workplace by managing assets, delivering maximum value in acquisitions, preserving historic property, and implementing technology solutions.

  • Federal Leadership: Dave McClure, Associate Administrator of the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, led a number of open and transparent IT initiatives to provide increased government accessibility to the public.

  • Golden Gov Federal Executive of the Year: Casey Coleman led GSA in becoming the first agency to move to a cloud based email and collaboration platform which provided significant cost savings and improvements to security, mobility and performance.

  • Federal Leadership: Sonny Hashmi leveraged emerging technologies to drive IT modernization.

  • Golden Gov Federal Executive of the Year: Gwynne Kostin fostered the federal mobile community while delivering on the Digital Government Strategy through her leadership of the newly formed Digital Services Innovation Center.

  • Most Inspiring Newcomer: SocialGov, or the Federal Social Media Community of Practice led by New Media Manager Justin Herman during its inaugural year, has become a force for sharing solutions and raising the bar for improved citizen services while reducing costs.

  • Innovation of the Year: the GSALink Smart Building program is an industry-leading analytics system (in 55 of the largest government office buildings across the US) resulting in significant savings in energy and operation expenses.
