GSA Helps Small Businesses Access Contracting Opportunities


GSA training teaches small businesses how to grow their businesses and create jobs.

Hundreds of small business representatives recently attended a training fair on contracting opportunities available through GSA’s small business programs.counselingcorner.jpg

The training centered around the Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) program, which helps small businesses in urban and rural communities gain access to federal procurement opportunities. Attendees also learned how GSA is using sustainable acquisition requirements to green the government.

Bringing together small businesses in a collaborative forum like this is a win for everyone. The government is able to tap innovative solutions that help agencies accomplish their missions while small business are able to grow and create jobs. The fair also featured small group and individual matchmaking and small business counseling.

Expanding opportunities for small business is one of the agency’s top priorities. For its efforts,  GSA received an “A+” grade from the Small Business Administration for its work expanding opportunities for small businesses around the country. Last fiscal year GSA awarded more than 1.3 billion dollars to small business, representing nearly 40 percent of eligible contract dollars, exceeding the agency’s 30 percent goal and all prime contracting subcategory goals.

The training was held at GSA’s headquarters in Washington, DC, and was also made available virtually to business and government acquisition professionals around the country.
